I've always wondered if you guys hate it when people ask for commissions, but they give you a character that's NOT in Sonic style?  Do you find it difficult to adapt the characters to Sonic style, and if so, what styles/species do you think are the most difficult to work with?

There's a lot of Sonic-style artists on DA, and I love seeing my characters drawn different ways, but I always feel nervous presenting artists with my inkblot style and ask them to draw them with normal eyes in their usual style.  It also doesn't help to ask the artist ahead of time what they prefer, because the response is ALWAYS, "I'll draw whatever you want".  I find that comment a bit canned and hard to swallow if all their art is in a single style, and sometimes, even follows a single theme.

Thoughts?

If the question is "do we hate drawing things not in Sonic style" no but it is a little more difficult because everyone is giving me their orange Sonic's and then I get something totally different and it throws me off a little. Just a little though. After that it is so refreshing. Like, I have to stop and draw something else because I have drawn SO MUCH SONIC STUFF it's nice to get to be asked for something else.

I also don't mind taking something that isn't "Sonic" and translating it to that style. It's a little more freedom than just going by a ref and drawing it on model like I have to for the comics. It involves some creative thinking but is still kind of "easy" since it's a style I know so well.

As far as species that are difficult, any kind of animal that has some sort of shell or some lizards are hard to create new characters out of. there aren't many in the canon so there aren't many "rules" for them so it's tricky. (I would have said fish too but the comic created a model for them recently).

Hope that helps. :)
